First known as Sainte-Anne-de-la-Grande-Anse in reference to this vast cove along the St. Lawrence River, it is also known as Sainte-Anne-du-Sud. Amerindians called it Kamitsitsit or Kannissigit, meaning where there are a lot of beavers. The current designation owes its name to the first lord of La Pocatière, François Pollet de la Combe Pocatière, and to his wife, Marie-Anne Juchereau.

Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière is characterized by its peaceful way of life and large residential areas advantageously located near a variety of services. The municipality is well known for its innovative and dynamic agri-food and agri-environmental industry. The presence of built heritage elements such as the train station on Chemin de la Station is also noteworthy. On foot or on a bike, do not miss your chance to explore the section of the Route Verte cycling trail which is built on a tide gate running along the St. Lawrence River.
